THE EXCITING Ajool just keeps on improving for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Al Adiyaat Stables and after his victory in the Grade 2 Bustillo Stakes, over 1600m at San Isidoro, the son of Archipenko has now won five consecutive races. n this occasion he beat a Grade One winner with an international rating of 114, El Consorte, suggesting Ajool has even more to offer as he remains on the upgrade. In what was a thrilling tussle, the pair locked in battle throughout the final 400m in what was one of the most exciting finishes witnessed at San Isidoro all season. A winner on dirt and turf, over 1400m and 1600m, the chances are he will clash with El Consorte again, an eagerly anticipated rematch indeed.
Ajool is homebred with both his parents raced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum and finishing their racing careers with Mike de Kock. Globetrotting Archipenko retired having won six times, twice at Nad Al Sheba but most importantly landing the Group 1 QE II Cup at Sha Tin in Hong Kong, as well as winning the Group 2 Summer Mile at Ascot. Ajool’s dam, Emotif, a daughter of Giant’s Causeway and foaled in Argentina, won once in South Africa before contesting the 2013 Dubai World Cup Carnival without excelling in four starts. She was then sent to England, covered by Archipenko, before returning to her homeland and foaling Ajool. Such is his ability and scope, it is certainly not impossible that he will be campaigned abroad at some time in the future, most likely in the US.
