Miss Zilal carried the colours of Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani to victory in the Prix Quitaine (Wathba Stallions Cup) at Tolouse Friday evening.
Trained by Didier Guillemin and ridden by Clement Merille in the 2000m turf affair for 3yos, the General filly showed good late speed to win by a neck from Ska De L’aigle, Thomas Fourcy’s charge who was ridden by Jerome Cabre. A further neck back in third was Um Elhadab for trainer Francois Rohaut and rider Matthias Lauron.
The Wathba Stallions Cup series is held under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
It runs under the patronage of the 14th edition of the His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan International Racing Festival for Purebred Arabian Horses and is aimed at encouraging small owners and breeders to breed and acquire Purebred Arabians.
The festival is supported and sponsored by the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the National Archives, Etisalat, National Feed, Emirates Airlines and also sponsored by Al Masaood-Nissan, Areej Al Amirat, Omair Bin Youssef Travels, Yas Channel, the General Women’s Union, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Viola Company, Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club and the Emirates Arabian Horse Association.
