RED STABLES’ boss Doug Watson has announced that his two new high profile Dubai World Cup Carnival prospects have arrived in Dubai safe and sound. Classics candidate and exciting 1800m Keeneland 2yo winner Liam’s Legend and multiple Grade Two winner Quip have cleared quarantine and have begun serious training at Watson’s yard as they prepare to run in the colours of new owners. “We started tack walking them and after Christmas jogged them at Red Stables,” Watson said. “They looked great and seemed to have travelled really well. In about five more days they’ll start their training, but they have been jogging a little around the quarantine.”
Purchased privately by Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Grade One placed Quip, a 5yo Distorted Humor entire, won the 2019 Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap and was subsequently a good second in the Grade 2 Stephen Foster Stakes. Liam’s Legend has made just two starts, but the 3yo son of Liam’s Map impressed new owner Khalid bin Mishref enough for him to shell out $325,000 for the grey colt at Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. Both were previously trained by one of America’s ascending conditioners, Rodolphe Brisset. Quip is a possible candidate for the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge R2 on 7 February or the Group 3 Firebreak Stakes on 13 February, while Liam’s Legend is naturally pointing toward the 3yo programme at Meydan, with a possible launch in the Group 3 UAE 2000 Guineas on 6 February.
