EXCITING JUVENILE Dubawi colt Midtown remains unbeaten after maintaining his perfect record with a cosy success in the 1400m Listed Prix Herod at Chantilly last Wednesday. Partnered by Mickael Barzalona for Andre Fabre, the 2yo colt had made a winning debut over 1500m just 15 days earlier in a contest for unraced colts and geldings at Saint-Cloud, ridden on that occasion by apprentice Hugo Besnier. Barzalona said: “He had only run once before so the team were keen to give him more experience ahead of what could be an exciting 3yo campaign. “Hopefully he will strengthen over the winter and he is one very much to look forward to.”

Midtown’s dam, First City, won the 2012 Group 2 Balanchine Stakes over 1800m on the Meydan turf. She is also the dam of Laieth, a 5yo gelded fullbrother to Midtown now trained by Fawzi Nass for EERC (Emirates Entertainment Racing Club). A few hours later, across the English Channel, on Polytrack at Kempton, Charlie Appleby and William Buick combined with another Dubawi 2yo who is now unbeaten after two starts. The gelded Rebel’s Romance had made a winning debut three weeks earlier over a mile on Tapeta at Newcastle and was following up over the same trip. Homebred, his 4yo Frankel half-sister Dubai Beauty was fourth in the 2019 Listed UAE 1000 Guineas for Saeed bin Suroor.
