HOMEBRED BY Sheikh Abdullah Al Maddah’s Marbat LLC, My Fancy scored a first black type success in the Listed Prix Herod at Saint- Cloud last week. The March born Myboycharlie juvenile colt broke his maiden at the second time of asking last month, just getting his nose in front over 1600m at Chantilly.

He was then runner-up over the same distance at ParisLongchamp two weeks before this 1400m Listed success. He raced prominently throughout under Maxime Guyon, riding for P & J Brandt, and just held on from the fast finishing Rose Premium by a head, with Godolphin colt Tribalist running on for third. My Fancy is a half-brother to the same owner’s Group 1 Critérium de Saint-Cloud hero and new sire Mkfancy, saddled by Pia Brandt for that big race success before a brief spell in Dubai with Salem bin Ghadayer.

Coincidentally, My Fancy’s victory was achieved at the same time as it was announced the aforementioned Mkfancy had been retired to stand at Haras de Saint- Arnoult in Normandy. About 80 minutes later, Speak Of The Devil, who has been the model of consistency all season, added to her impressive black type haul with victory in the 1600m Listed Prix Tantième under Stephane Pasquier for Fred Rossi.

Following up on a course and distance success in the Listed Prix Isola Bella just over a fortnight earlier, the 4yo Wootton Bassett filly had been by no means disgraced when finishing sixth behind Godolphin’s Space Blues in the Group 1 Prix de la Forêt. Earlier in the campaign, she was third in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild behind Mother Earth.

She also won the Listed Prix de la Calonne over 1600m at Deauville in July. As a 3yo last season, she was runner-up in the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches, beaten a nose. The eventual third, Lupo Nero set the early pace, tracked by Speak Of The Devil, who made her move inside the final 300m and, battling neck and neck with Godolphin’s Midtown, drew well clear of the rest to prevail by a short head in a very close finish.
