Royal Lytham showed his class when putting in a solid late performance to rob Platinum Star of glory in the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket on Thursday.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Wayne Lordan, Royal Lytham swept home late to win a thrilling 1200m contest via photo-finish from Godolphin’s Platinum Star, trained BY Saeed Bin Suroor and ridden by Harry Bentley.

Mark Johnston's favourite Visinari took a close third.

Winning rider Lordan said: "He raced a little bit lazily but he found for pressure and even when I passed the line he pricked one ear. It was only his third start and I definitely think he'll get further.

"He was a bit unlucky in the Coventry Stakes last time and not a lot seems to bother him, which is a big plus."
