Jim Bolger's Poetic Flare battled Master Of The Seas to win a thrilling renewal of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The pair, and eventually third placed Lucky Vega, were locked in a gruelling duel down the centre of the track with Bolger's Kevin Manning ridden Poetic Flare, showing immense courage to pip his rivals.

Master Of The Seas, trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, threw everything in his bid to win under William Buick, but the battle of the bob went to Poetic Flare, who had his head down when it mattered.

Appleby's front-running Naval Crown was fourth in the hands of Adam Kirby.

A Master Of The Seas win would have been a third on the card for Appleby and Buick, who won the Ryan Moore Flat Race, a 1200m handicap with Creative Force, and then the Group 3 Palace House Stakes with Lazuli.
