Millisle turned in an enormous performance to steal the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes from under the nose of Raffle Prize in what was a dramatic turn of events in the final furlong of the six furlong contest at Newmarket on Saturday.
Trained by Jessica Harrington and ridden by Shane Foley, the 2yo daughter of Starspangledbanner powered away from the rest of her rivals including hot favourite Raffle Prize to win by a length and three fourths with Tropbeau a further half length behind in third.
Millisle broke well but lost her place with Foley making her break to her right from where she quickened up strongly to take up the running from Raffle Prize and claim a third success in five career starts.
Harrington said: “She was more relaxed today. You would give her the 1000 Guineas entry but the ground would have to be good as whether she would get the trip on soft ground I don’t know, but on her dam’s side she is bred to get a mile easily.”
It was Foley’s first Group 1 success in Britain and he said: “She’s an amazing little filly, I’ve loved her from day one.
“She was outpaced throughout but I knew when she hit the rising ground she’d stay home and she enjoyed that nice ground.”
