Duke Of Hazzard justified his favourite tag to win the Group 3 Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes for trainer Paul Cole and rider PJ Mcdonald.
The 3yo Lope De Vega colt was switched to the left in the final furlong by Mcdonald after finding no room to move to the front. It turned out to be a good move as Duke Of Hazzard quickened up well under pressure and ran on to the front in the final strides of the mile contest.
Half length behind in second was Turjomaan, trained by Roger Varian and ridden by Jim Crowley. A further two lengths behind in third was Momkin.
Cole said: "It's great to have another good horse again. It's wonderful (for the owner) as there aren't many Jim Hay's around.
"He was going to go for a Group Three race in Deauville so that is maybe on the cards, but these are things we need to think about and discuss.
"He is a horse that can handle anything, as he is extremely tough and nothing fazes him. I think he is on the upgrade."
