Trainer Maria Hagman-Eriksson and jockey Carlos Lopes joined forces to win the Wathba Stallions Cup race with Ayman on Sunday.
Contested over a 1730m turf strip at Jagersro Racecourse and part of this year’s Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival programme, the race saw the 7yo son of General clinch his 10th career success in style after being unleashed by Lopez at the right time.
Mohaymin, the charge of Annelie Eriksson, tried to put up a challenge under Andreas Tapia Dalbark, but there was never any doubt who was destined to be the winner. Ayman won by a neck with Mohaymin finishing well clear of third placed CR Yaqzhaan, trained by Marie Cederbom and ridden by Angelika Berg. Ayman won with a time of 2:01.00.
The Al Wathba Stallions Cup series is held under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, with the aim of encouraging owners and breeders to breed and acquire purebred Arabian horses, which have become a broad base and great interest in Europe. The Sheikh Mansoor bin Zayed Al Nahyan Racing Festival is active around the world with races sponsored in Britain, United States, Europe and South America.
