THE TEA PARTY resumed at Jebel Ali Racecourse a fortnight ago with the return of fans and this week too after adhering to all prescribed protocols Jebel Ali will host its third meeting of the season, the racecourse’s banks serving as the idyllic setting to watch some exciting racing up the famed hill. No press conference was held but the racecourse’s management issued a press note saying this week’s six race card is worth Dh460,000, with most of the prize money being dedicated to a pair of conditions events.

Sponsored by Al Shafar Investment and Shadwell, they are valued at Dh100,000 each and will be contested over the 1200m chute. One of those is dedicated to 3yos and has drawn together a competitive field with Doug Watson’s Uncle Hamed the favourite therein.

Watson has strong hands and will also be favourite to win the rated conditions event as well when he dispatches Al Tariq for the owner of the aforementioned Uncle Hamed, Abdul Mohsen Abdul Kareem. Dubai Real Estate Center, Dubai Refreshment (Pepsi), Commercial Bank of Dubai and SIS - UK are also part of the sponsorship roster.

Race meetings at the UAE’s ‘family racecourse’ have always been well attended in the past, with enthusiastic crowds and Pick Six players intently poring over their copies of Al Adiyat, looking for vital insight to give them an added edge. And although with the public health and safety protocols in place crowds attending will be limited to a maximum of 7,000 spectators or 70% of the total capacity, there will be no cap curtailing the excitement of racegoers attending the meeting.

A total of 100 gifts will be raffled during the course of the afternoon with those lucky to be called out standing to win gifts such as television sets, mobile phones and home appliances among others. This will be done via free coupons that will be distributed at the main entrance. Ahmed Al Shehhi, Member of the Organising Committee of JARC, said: “We strive to please everyone.

There have been many developments made at the venue to provide a more enjoyable experience for racegoers and those involved in racing.” JARC Manager Shareef Al Halawani added: “On behalf of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the management extends its thanks and appreciation to all sponsors and to the Emirates Racing Authority for their cooperation in helping racing flourish at Jebel Ali.”

Ss has become the norm, Jebel Ali Racecourse will award Dh1,000 to the groom of the horse judged the ‘best turned out’ in each race, with the total prize this week at Dh6,000. With a sizeable crowd expected to attend Friday’s meeting, it is recommended to arrive in good time to complete all entry formalities and thereafter gain entry to savour the atmosphere ahead of the first race at 2:00pm.
