THE LEGENDARY Kahayla, who previously raced as Victoria’s Secret in her native US, sadly passed away it was announced by Khalid Khalifa Al Nabooda’s Al Aweer Farm, where she resided, just as Al Adiyat was going to press last week. Fittingly, the announcement coincided with the Group 1 Al Maktoum Challenge R3, a race she won the inaugural edition of back in 1994, one of her six unbeaten appearances at Nad Al Sheba between January of that year and the following February.
She also landed the second round of the Al Maktoum Challenge in both 1994 and 1995, as well as, at home in the US, being a Darley Award winner and heroine of the 1992 Grade 1 Arabian Jockey Club Oaks at Delaware Park. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed, she competed in the silks of HMRM and has the distinction of the Purebred Arabian contest on the Dubai World Cup card, the Group 1 Kahayla Classic, being named in her honour. Aged 32 when she died, she is also the year older full-sister to another Purebred Arabian phenomenon, Alanudd, or Unchainedd Melody as she was known Stateside.
