Turkish delight in qualifier

The Gulf News Dubai Cup Qualifier headlined the second day of the Dubai Showjumping Championship 2016 CSI***-W as Turkey’s Omer Karaevli secured the win aboard Rabane De Sury in 62.06s. The contest served as the qualifier for closing day’s Emirates Airline Dubai Grand Prix FEI World Cup Qualifier. The class included a field of 46 competitors with prize money of Dh120,000 being offered.

Karaevli would lead the field for Saturday’s Dubai Grand Prix, an FEI World Cup Qualifier, the headline event of the three-day Dubai Show Jumping Championship. David Will of Germany, who won the Emirates Airlines Two Phases on Thursday, collected second place as he guided Monodie H to a time of 63.38s. Close behind in third was the Italian rider, Andre Sakakini and his horse HW’s Saskia with a time of 63.60s. In the closing event of the second day, the tightly contested Longines Speed Stakes, Sakakini returned to pilot Carott G to victory in 59.46s after finishing third in the opening Dubai Cup Qualifier.

Tina Lund of Denmark was runner-up with a time of 59.80s aboard Wendy B. The UAE’s Sheikh Ali Al Qasimi finished third on Jument Dufee in a time of 62.18s in the class that included 27 competitors.
