New record carnival tally for Godolphin

AFTER 62 Thoroughbred races at the 2018 Dubai World Cup Carnival, Godolphin finished with a record 31 winners and you do not need an abacus to work out that is 50% of such races. They had at least one runner in most, but not all and it is an impressive strike rate. After a treble on Super Saturday, the final carnival meeting, Charlie Appleby finished on 17, three more than fellow Godolphin handler, Saeed bin Suroor. Both had started the day on 14. Doug Watson, who won half of the four Purebred Arabian contests staged throughout the ten meetings, was next on seven, one ahead of Salem bin Ghadayer.

A Super Saturday double for Satish Seemar and a single winner for Fawzi Nass saw both finish on four. With Christophe Soumillon suspended last week, William Buick was pretty much guaranteed to finish top of the jockeys and a brace cemented that position. His tally of 13 was six more than Soumillon, himself one clear of Pat Dobbs, Mickael Barzalona and Pat Cosgrave.
