What is life like as Number two rider for Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum?

It’s a great job with a lot of nice horses to look forward to that I usually pick up or start off their careers on.

Have you enjoyed the last three winters you have spent here in Dubai?

I love it here! The weather is the best part especially when you could be riding at Wolverhampton on a cold late evening. It makes you realise how lucky you are to be here.

You work alongside Paul Hanagan, describe your relationship as a team?

We get on very well on and off the track. Paul is a good guy to deal with, he is solid and reliable, it’s a great team
to be a part of.

What is your best memory as a jockey?

Winning the Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest in France on Bold Edge shortly after losing my claim.

Are you from a racing background?

My family has always been very interested in racing, they had a few jumpers and bred a few. When I was young I did a lot of showjumping and pony racing so horses were always at hand.

What horses have made an impact on your career?

Bold Edge. I won on him shortly after losing my claim.

If you could ride any racehorse, past or present, which one would it be?

I won on Taghrooda in a maiden. She was a very important horse to the team. If there was any horse I would have loved to have ridden in bigger races it would have been her, she was a very straightforward ride.

Where is your favorite racetrack?

What race would you like to win that you have not yet won?

l’Arc de Triomphe

Somewhere you would like to travel to?

What is your favourite restaurant in Dubai?

Caramel in DIFC.

Do you have any pets?

Yes, three dogs and a budgie.

Would you do a day hunting in the UK?

Yes, I have done it before with Adam Kirby and Eddie Ahern. We did well to survive but it’s great fun!

A horse to follow on the dirt during the DWCC?

Tamarkuz trained by Musabah Al Muhairi

A horse to follow on the turf during the DWCC?

Almoonqith trained by Mike de Kock.

Tell us something nobody knows about you.?

I am actually a very grumpy person underneath it all!
